Abstract:
In 2005, Wal-Mart was the leading retailer of consumer goods and groceries worldwide. It entered Germany in 1997 by the acquisition of two local hypermarket chains, Wertkauf and Interspar. Ever since its entry, Wal-Mart made losses in Germany and its business declined steadily due to a host of reasons. The case discusses on the reasons behind its failure. The revamp strategies of Wal-mart in Germany has been highlighted in Part (B) of this case.
